Taking tissue samples from market sharks for management purposes

*Measuring population diversity, Catch per Unit Effort (CPUE)

- Over 1400 tissue samples taken from 22 species of sharks caught in the Malacca Straits and Andaman sea area. These sharks were caught by the fishermen and brought into the market. If I bought everyone a cup of coffee, they would let me photograph the specimen, take tissue samples and take morphological measurements. We then submitted these samples to a lab for population analysis and then to the Barcode of Life project for inclusion into global genetic library.
